Practicing Church - Too!
In an effort to be persistent and consistent, I have been inserting the five practices of a fruitful congregation into as many notes, meetings and conversations as possible. These practices rise out the work of Robert Schnase. Let me ask, what comes to mind when you think of "hospitality?" Now, what comes to mind when you hear "radical hospitality?" Is it a different image? The word radical changes things. How about these...

Radical Hospitality.
Lately when I have been hearing this word radical, I think of radius/center/beginning. So when I think of radical hospitality, I try to think of what hospitality looked like in the beginning.
Just a few days ago a group of 14 members of Midway Hills Christian Church (DOC) Dallas, Texas traveled to Olancho, Honduras where we were paired with a village called San Pedro Cruz. When the Disciples group pulled into the village there was a hand-made banner with a invitation from the village. There were also a group of 150-ish villagers with wide smiles, kind eyes, open arms, and words of greeting in a completely different language. As the two groups gathered we listened to each others songs, words of greetings, and shared our expectations of the week. We were invited to their homes, invited to hold and play with the children, invited to gather for conversation (in broken English and broken Spanish) and invited to share each others lives.
What was so radical about this hospitality was that there was no hesitation on either part. We were strangers who recognized each other as the body of Christ. We met each other with open arms as well as open hearts.
